While at Michigan, she worked independently with poet Robert Hayden. Also at Michigan, she received the Avery and Jule Hopwood Prize. It was the highest prize awarded that year and the first in Michigan’s history for a piece written directly for the screen. The Reading (October, 2022) will be her fifth published novel. The Rocky Orchard (2020) was awarded the Silver Medal for Literary Fiction, Reader’s Choice Awards. Pushing the River (2018) won the Bronze Award for Literary Fiction, Reader’s Choice Awards.
